Monastic textbooks / Anumodana Certificate / Donation Intention Form

Monastic textbooks are texts or curricula used by monks and novice monks to study various branches of Buddhism, including the Dhamma program, the Pali program, general education (secular subjects comparable to the lay school system), and study at Buddhist/monastic universities.  Their purpose is to preserve and transmit Buddhism and to develop monks as an important force within the Sangha and society.
 
Main types of monastic textbooks:
Dhamma Studies: Focuses on foundational Buddhist teachings and principles.
Pali Studies: Studies the Pali language in order to read and understand the Tipiṭaka and Buddhist scriptures (for example, the Visuddhimagga is an important text used in Pali studies).
General Education: A curriculum of general academic subjects equivalent to the lay education system so monks have broader knowledge.
Monastic university education: Advanced programs in religious studies and other academic fields for monks.

A donation intention form is a form stating one’s intention to offer monetary support to monks, with the amount written on paper.  This allows monks to avoid receiving cash directly in accordance with monastic discipline, and instead the money is handled by a temple administrator who manages the funds on the temple’s behalf.  It functions like a cash substitute to ensure merit-making is done properly and in a pure manner.

An Anumodana certificate is a document issued by a religious institution (such as a temple) to certify a donation of money or goods and to express rejoicing in the merit of that charitable act.
