Incense is a type of fragrant offering made with a bamboo stick core coated with aromatic wood powder or other fragrant substances. When lit, it releases smoke and a pleasant scent. It is commonly used as an offering to sacred beings or revered figures in religious ceremonies. For example, in Buddhism, three incense sticks are often offered to pay respect to the Triple Gem (the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha). In many cultures, incense is also used to communicate with deities, ward off evil, or support meditation.
