Twin Mongkol, Mongkol Chakra (Bride and Groom Head Mongkol)
- What it is: An auspicious sacred thread (Sai Sin) that has been ceremonially blessed.
- Design: Made as two connected loops (two circular rings), sized to fit over the head. The distance between the two loops is approximately two cubits.
- Purpose: Placed over the bride’s and groom’s heads during the Rod Nam Sang (Thai wedding water-blessing) ceremony to symbolize their spiritual connection and unity—like an auspicious thread that binds their love together.
- How it is used: The ceremony presider places the Twin Mongkol on the couple during the water-blessing rite (after the garlands are placed). It is traditionally placed on the groom first, and then on the bride.
- After the ceremony: An elder removes the Twin Mongkol and gives it to the couple to keep—many place it at the head of the bed as a lucky keepsake.
- Common use: Popular in traditional Thai weddings, used together with the water-blessing set, garlands, and ceremonial anointing paste (pung jeem).
